Why Piedmont & Tuscany?

Piedmont: You may have never heard of Piedmont and perhaps unsure exactly where it is, but if you know Italy’s most famous wines like Barolo, Barbaresco and Nebbiolo – they are all from Piedmont. Piedmont lies in the Northwest corner of Italy close to France and west of Milan.  The word Piedmont means foothills of the Alps. The Italian Alps sit in the foreground of this wine region protecting it from northern exposures.  Piedmont is the birthplace of the Slow Food Movement, home of the white truffle, birthplace of hazelnuts and Italian chocolate. The region is famous for its wine, cuisine and culture. Most US travelers visit the Italian cities including Florence, Rome and Venice but Piedmont is truly special, and we’d love to share it with you.

Tuscany: We will be exploring an area called the Val d’Orcia – a stunning UNESCO-listed valley in southwest Tuscany. Famous for its rolling, vineyard covered hills, twisting cypress lined roads and Renaissance hilltop villages, it’s considered one of the most cinematic and photographed regions in the world. This prestigious Tuscan wine region celebrated for its world-class Sangiovese-based reds specifically the renowned Brunello di Montalcino. We first discovered this area was in 2001 on a family trip to celebrate our parents’ anniversary. It remains as exquisite and majestic as the first time we saw it.
